How do I get extra credit?

Here is the answer to the age old question.  All students are enrolled in Skills Tutor under my name.  For extra credit, students should complete the assignments listed under their grade level.  For each assignment completed, add it to the assignment log, record your score and have a parent signature that verifies the score recorded. (Show your parents the score before you close out of the assignment!)  The assignment may be attempted three times.  Please be sure to record every score you earn, and the highest score will be recorded.

All assignments completed for credit must be turned in by the last Monday of the nine weeks marking period!

End of year update

Parents,

All grade levels have Skills Tutor assignments due on or before May 23.  Any assignments that remain incomplete on this date will become zeros. 

How does one avoid such an outcome?  Check Pinnacle for completed assignments and for those that remain incomplete.  I have listed them all.  Students are able to work on these assignments before school in my classroom of the media center as well as from home.  Sixth and Seventh graders also have two class periods left for work time.  Unfortunately, 8th graders do not have any more class time due the remediation process for the math CRCT.  However, many of them don't have much left to do.

The Final Countdown

As we enter the final nine weeks, students must be sure they have a solid understanding of the skills learned this school year.  To assist, students will be given Skills Tutor assignments as part of their nine weeks grade for Math Connections.  They will have 5 class sessions to work on these assignments, but they may also access Skills Tutor from their home computer.  The information for access is attached to this blog to the right under pages.  All lessons must be completed by end of day on May 23, 2011.

Review each of the sites below for practice on each operation.  As you complete one operation, fill in the organizer with the rule in your own words.  At the end, completethe Graded Practice, 1-10...be sure to work the problems out on paper.

8th grade Radicals

Using the site http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/algebra/AO1/indexAO1.htm review how to simplify, add, subtract and divide with radicals.  As you brush up on your skills, take notes on each topic using the organizer template you were given.  Once you have completed reading and taking notes, complete the practice problems on the back of the organizer.  There are 12 problems and I should see work for all 12 problems.  Read carefully and good luck!!

Headed in the right direction!

I am pleased to say that students are making steady progress towards greater achievement in math!  For 8th grade students it is especially critical.  The CRCT math section is one of the standards that students must meet to move to the 9th grade.  To aid in this process Ihave put assignments on Skills Tutor that review all topics we have studied this far.  Students can earn bonus points for working the Skills tutor lessons!  (see the featured blog at the top of this page!)  Also, I have a list of sites that will be useful for practice in the pages section of this blog.  (How to help your child prepare for the CRCT)

We can all see success if we just give the effort!!  I look forward to seeing the smiles on the faces of students when success is theirs!!

The first half of the school year is nearly over!  Students will be working on creating test questions and games as a final project. 

must say that I am pleased with the progress I have seen in students.  Practice truly does make perfect!  I hope that those who will no longer be in Math Connections will continue to work hard and seek tutoring as needed.
