Streetman's Synopsis

Last Week!!

It has been a fantastic year.  I am so proud of all my students who have worked so hard.  Keep up the good work next year.

Here is the schedule for the remaining two days:

Tuesday: Dismiss at 12:30
                Finals in 1st and 2nd

Wednesday: Dismiss at 12:30
                    Finals in 5th and 6th

On Monday, we will be reviewing for the final (it is the benchmark students have taken all year) and taking care of last minute make-up work. 

Week of May 16th through the 20th

Monday: Students finished reading the novel, The Giver.  We also worked on our discussion questions for the novel.
HW: Discussion questions will be checked at the beginning of class on Tuesday.  Answers will be given shortly after, so to get full credit, students must have the questions completed at the start of class.  Otherwise, only half credit will be given.

Tuesday: Students will go over the discussion questions and review for the novel test on The Giver.  Students also completed workbook pages 208 (A only, write sentences), 209 (all, write sentences), and 211 (all, write sentences). 
HW: Study (use all of your old quizzes), open book test tomorrow over the Giver

Wednesday: Open book test over The Giver.  Work on make up work.

Thursday and Friday: We will be watching the movie, City of Ember, to compare and contrast the two Utopian societies described in both our novel and the movie.

Week of May 9th through the 13th

Students will use this week to finish reading the novel, The Giver, and we will complete any make-up work.  Please remember that anything missing in Pinnacle is due on Friday, May 13th.  NO CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN IF MAKE UP WORK IS TURNED IN PAST THIS DATE!

Please remember that for the remaining two Fridays we will have a quote quiz.  Each day students have been coming in and copying a quote into their journal.  At the end of the week, using their journals, they will have a short quiz over the quotes.  The quiz only asks them for information they should have in their journals (the exact quote or the author).  All they do is copy the information from their journal onto their quiz paper.  The only way to fail it is if they don't write the quote and warm-up down each day.  Starting Friday, May 13th, being absent does not count as an excuse as to why the quote was not written down.  I have linked all of the quotes we will be using over the next few days below:

Monday (5/9): Students went over their quiz from Friday over chapters eleven through 14.  We also read chapters fifteen and sixteen (118-129).  Students should answer their discussion questions over these sections.  We will complete workbook pages 154 (A & B: write sentences) and page 172 (1-10: no sentences) over the next two days.

Tuesday (5/10): Students finished their workbook pages (154 & 172) and turned them in.  We read and discussed chapters seventeen and eighteen in our novel.  Students should be up to page 145 in the novel.  We also had time to finish the discussion questions over these sections.

Wednesday (5/11): Students completed reading chapters eighteen and nineteen.  We finished our discussion questions with a partner.  Students also worked on page 173 (A: no sentences, B: write sentences) and page 155 (A: write sentences, B: no sentences).

Thursday (5/12): Students went over their discussion questions for this section to prepare for the quiz tomorrow.  Remember that the quiz questions come directly from the discussion questions we have been going over each day.  Students will use this time to complete any make-up work and any work they need to from this week. 

Friday (5/13): All make-up work is due.  Students worked on a quiz for chapters fifteen through nineteen of The Giver.  We also took a quote quiz (see instructions above).  Make sure that you completed the workbook pages for this week.   

Week of May 2nd through May 6th

Agenda for the week:

Monday (5/2): Students went over the quiz for chapters six through ten.  We also read chapter eleven.  Students were given time to work on make up work, too.

Tuesday (5/3): Field trip; no classes met

Wednesday (5/4): Students read chapters twelve and thirteen in The Giver.  We also completed workbook pages 40-42. 

Thursday (5/5): Students discussed chapters eleven through thirteen.  Chapter fourteen and fifteen will be read today.  We will also go over the discussion questions for these chapters. 

Friday (5/6): There will be a Warm-up quiz over the quotes we discussed each day (answers are the daily warm-ups; students use their journal to complete).  We will also take a quiz over chapters eleven through fifteen.  Students will have time to complete make up work which is due May 13th.

Week of April 25th through 29th

Important Reminders:
    Students were given registration forms on Monday, April 25th.  Please read the accompanying letter about registration, fill out the forms, and return to school as soon as possible.

    5/3: 7th Grade Field trip to zoo

This week's agenda:
Monday (4/25): Students are reading chapter six and seven in The Giver.  We will also have time in class to complete make up work that kids are missing.   

Tuesday (4/26): Students will read chapter eight in our novel and complete the discussion questions with partners.

Wednesday (4/27): Students will complete chapters nine and ten in The Giver.  We will also complete the rest of the discussion questions for chapters six through ten.  There will be an open book quiz over the material tomorrow.

Thursday (4/28): Students will take a quiz over chapters six through ten.  We will also read chapter eleven.

Friday (4/29): No classes will meet.  It is drug and alcohol awareness day.

Week of April 18th through the 22nd

On Monday, students will finish the CRCT.  We will have make up testing the remainder of the week for anyone who needs it.  Students will have their regular schedule starting Tuesday. 

Below is the agenda for the week.  We are starting the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry.  There will only be a class set available, so if you need more time with the novel, besides what is given in class, you need to purchase it.  The class set of novels is not available for check out. 

MONDAY/TUESDAY: Students will read chapters one and two in the novel, The Giver.  We will also have some time for finishing make up work. 

WEDNESDAY:  We will discuss the first chapters of the novel and begin our discussion questions.  Students will be given a copy of all of the questions for the novel.  Please complete the questions on your own paper.  Students should also read chapter three, if time.

THURSDAY: Students will complete chapters three and four.  We will work on our discussion questions in groups. 

FRIDAY: Students will read chapter five of the novel and complete a quiz over the first five chapters.  We will finish answering the discussion questions in class.  Students should finish any make up work as soon as possible.  See your agenda for the lists we have made.

If possible....

Next week (April 18-22) we are starting a novel study on The Giver, by Lois Lowry.  There will be a class set available for students to use, but they will not be able to take the book home, unless they purchase their own copy (from an outside source, the school will not be selling the novel).

CRCT Week! April 11-15

Please remember that the following agenda is schedule to change due to CRCT testing this week: 

Monday, 4/11:  Students completed/reviewed the Idioms poster we started before the break.  Students were told what they are missing (it should be written in their agenda), and they were given time to complete some of those assignments.
HW: Idiom poster due Tuesday, April 12th

Tuesday/Wednesday, 4/12 and 4/13: Students completed a worksheet on Connotation/Denotation (do the side with the poems only).  We also reviewed poetry terms and exercises in the Reader's Journey, pages 320-321 and 326-333.
HW: Finish the Reader's Journey pages

Thursday/Friday, 4/14 and 4/15: Students will review context clues and poetry.  We will read/discuss the following poems in the Literature book:
        Jabberwocky (page 594)
        Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout (page 596-97)
        Two Limericks (page 598)
HW: Complete the questions on page 599 (1-8, ALL)
