8-2 Students only!

The information below is only for my 8th grade second connections class.

This summer I began my journey with

Auburn

University

as a distance graduate student, in pursuit of a Master’s in Music Education degree.  As a requirement for this degree, I am currently enrolled in a class called “Practicum in Area of Specialization” with the objective of “experiencing related theory and practice, usually in a school setting.”  For this class, I will be videotaping my teaching during your student’s band period.  This type of observation will aid my improvement and success as a music instructor.  The video will be focused on me all of the time, not on the students.  Again, this is to gain data for my class to evaluate my teaching.  Your student will not be videotaped during this evaluation.

Please turn in the following form by Thursday, February 14th!

Welcome Back!!

Hello parents/guardians/students!

I hope that everyone had a relaxing break and we are ready to start the new year!!

Something new!!

We are implementing another scale unit for the third nine weeks.  Since scales are the basis of any musical composition, it is important to reinforce this skill during middle school ensemble development.  Below is the testing schedule that will begin this Friday.  Each student will be tested on a different scale each week during class.  This assignment will count towards their written/playing test grade for the nine weeks.

Download third_nine_weeks_scale_unit.doc

This page will also be on the pages side of my blog so you can always find it easily.  As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I am looking forward working with your students this semester!

A quick note for my new general music students!  You can view what we will be doing this nine weeks on the 7th grade general music page on the side.  The syllabus is also there if you forget yours!  Welcome to my general music class!!

Winter Break Practice

We will NOT be recording practice times on our practice logs over the holidays.  HOWEVER... it is very important that EVERY student take his/her instrument home over the break.  It is essential that students not go over two weeks without playing their instrument.

Any student leaving an instrument in their band locker over the break will recieve deduction from their 3rd nine weeks daily grade.

As brass players, if we do not make sure our embouchure is working properly, we will not have any endurance to get ready for festivals and concerts in the spring sememster.  Please be buzzing on your moutpiece and practicing your instrument over the holiday vacation!

I wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season!  Thank you all for your commitment to the band programs and the wonderful concerts!  Congradulations to all!!

See everyone back at Lovinggood in 2008!!
