ARTICULATION

There are several students who are working on the /R/ sound in Speech.  The /R/ sound is one of the most difficult sounds to learn and produce.  Other sounds are easy to see and demonstrate to the student but the /R/ sound is difficult to see and is produced in a variety of ways.  The /R/ sound can  be broken up into several different and distinct sounds depending on the vowel preceding the /R/. These Vocalic R sounds are:

1. ER

2. OR

3. AR

4. AIR, EAR, IRE

5. and there is the prevocalic R sound (R at the beginning of a word).

Below are several word lists to help with practicing the /R/ sound. Using a tape recorder to tape yourself saying the sounds is a great way to help with feedback as to whether you are saying the sound correctly or not.
