11/29-12/3

Language Arts:

Monday: Preview for the novel Code Orange.  We answered anticipation questions and watched a clip on 9/11.

Tuesday: Code Orange Vocabulary pretest; Worked in groups to complete vocabulary terms for the novel.  Students broke list up amongst groups and jigsawed to find answers.  Tomorrow is the county checkpoint test (like benchmark.) No homework.

Wednesday:  Students take County checkpoint test; finish vocabulary.  No homework

Social Studies:

Monday: Catch up and review for the Unit 4 test on Wednesday.

Tuesday: Bullying Lesson by the counselor.  Test over Unit 4 tomorrow!

Wednseday: Test over unit 4. No Homework

Thursday: Begin Unit 5: Africa Geogpraphy; take an anticipation quiz; recieve standards sheet; complete vocabulary terms, physical and political map, and read pp. 497-501 in text and complete two--column notes.  Highlight vocab words found in your notes.

Friday: Continued work from Thursday.

November 15-19

Language Arts:

 

Monday:  Finish prewriting and write rough draft for Persuasive Essay on topics from The Outsiders.

 

Tuesday:  Go to the computer lab and either finish the rough draft and revise and proof read, or begin typing revised and edited draft for final draft.

H.W.: Finish up with the editing and revising of the persuasive essay.

 

Wednesday: Work on grammar review in the Grammar Through Writing class sets.

H.W.: Be ready to do final copy of the persuasive essay.

 

Thursday:  Continue working in the Grammar Through Writing books in class.

 

Friday:  In blue or black ink, write the final copy of the persuasive essay.  Be sure to still follow the same formatting as if you were typing the essay.

 

 

Social Studies:

Monday:  We finished up with the articles from Friday over Economics in the M.E.

 

Tuesday:  We graded the “Which is Which?” handout that covered scenarios of the vocabulary words.  We also graded “The Importance of Trade” work and the questions over the Lesson 25 article.  Students worked on the GDP handout.

 

Wednesday:  Students finished up with the GDP handout and worked on the Scarcity and Natural Resources article and questions.

 

Thursday:  Students were given the study guide and worked to complete any unfinished work.

 

Friday:  Students finished any unfinished work from last class, including the study guide.  When finished, they worked on the comparing and contrasting of the economies of the M.E.

H.W.: Test over Unit 4 will be on November 30.

November 8-12

Language Arts:

Monday:  Finished up with propaganda notes and went over the propaganda h.w.  H.W.: Poss. noun sheet

Tuesday: Turned in the Poss. Noun sheet; Started working on The Outsiders advertisement poster.  Finish poster for H.W.

Wednesday:  Turned in the Ad. poster.  Took notes on using "Voice" in a persuasive essay.  Looked at two sample Persuasive essays.  The first one had the parts analyzed and we discussed how they fit together.  The second one, students had to break apart into pieces using a prewriting organizer.  No H.W.

Thursday and Friday:  We started our pre-writing and brainstorming for our persuasive essays.  Tomorrow we will continue and finish pre-writing and move to drafting our Persuasive Essay.

 

Social Studies:

Monday: Finished the vocabulary, Traditional vs. Command vs. Market Economy sheet, and the Which is Which sheet.

Tuesday: Graded and reviewed work from Monday.

Wednesday: Did a Bead factory simulation lesson that focused on specialization, interdependence, and the 3 basic economic systems.  No H.W.

Thursday: Today we wrote letters to veterans; debriefed our bead simulation from yesterday, and we watched a video on how culture shapes a country's economy.

Friday: We focused on trade.  We read articles and completed graphic organizers on Economic Growth.

November 1-5

Language Arts

Monday:  Continue The Outsiders movie, get study guide for test on Wed.  H.W.: Character sketch due Wed.

Tuesday: No school

Wednesday: Turn in Character sketch and study guide.  take DGP quiz and The Outsiders test.  Complete the quiz with correct answers for extra points on your DGP quiz: Download Dgp-quiz-redo

Thursday: Continued The Outsiders test; started on Persuasive writing.  H.W.: Due tomorrow- Lesson #1 Kinds of Nouns.  Due on 11/8: Propaganda H.W.

Homework – Choose 1: Due Monday, November 8, 2010

 

• Find 10 examples of propaganda techniques used in online ads. Print out the ads and identify the target audience, the message, and the persuasive technique used in the ad.
• Watch TV.  Choose one 30-minute comedy and one 60-minute drama show.  Record the time slot, how many total commercials there were for each program.  Then, choose 5 commercials from each show and identify the target audience, the message, what they were advertising, and what persuasive technique was used.
• Go through a magazine and record the total number of pages.  Then, record the number of pages with ads, the names 10 companies that advertised in them, and identify which persuasive methods were used in each of those 10 ads.

Social Studies:

Monday:  Work on completing and going over the study guide.  Test on Nov. 3, project also due that day.

Tuesday: No school

Wednesday: Unit 3 test and start on Unit 4 vocabulary.  Turned in project.  Last day of unit 3, no late work accepted after today for Unit 3.

Thursday: Worked on Vocabulary for Unit 4, and began discussing economic terms.  No H.W.

Friday: We finished up with the unit Vocabulary (to be checked on Monday) and finished going over the intro to Econ. power point:Download Economics; We then created a foldable and took notes on "The Three Economic Systems":Download THREE ECONOMIC SYSTEMS
