Students worked on reading for information CRCT Review today as a warm-up.  I was surprised to find that many students said they didn't know what an encyclopedia was or how to use it.  Especially sense we have worked with these books in both L.A. classes.

We finished up on the study guide for the test tomorrow, and reviewed the the answers for the study guide.  I wish everyone well on the test tomorrow!

We will also begin working on our E.Q. for the 4th nine weeks this week and students will need their realistic fiction books in class on Friday.

Remember that Reading logs and the informational review packet that students received Monday are BOTH due on Friday, 4/3!

Students should be reading any genre that choose!  The next book is due April 24th and it is the last of the required reading.  Wow!  The end is in sight, but please let that be a catalyst, not a reason to relax just yet!

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

Today was another one of those days when technology wasn't our friend!  The computers were crashed most of the day, so we used to time today, instead of presenting, to further prepare for the presentations.  I gave the students questions to use to lead their story discussions.  We also talked about the importance of "not putting our eggs in one basket." (They can explain this to you.)  We will hopefully start presentations tomorrow, if the computers are working.

Don't forget reading logs are due on Friday.

Realistic fiction is due 3/27.

The end of the semester is upon us, so we will be taking our benchmark exam on Friday.  We will be grading all the questions on the benchmark related to figurative language this nine weeks in addition to the other skills we have covered.  If you want to prepare to do well on the benchmark, then you should review the figurative language terms.  Here are some links to use for studying.

Today in class, we took our Context Clues Quiz #2 and turned in reading logs.  Students were told in class that I could not accept the logs late due to this being the last day of the 9 weeks; however, after recieving an email that said grades had to be submitted by Monday, I will allow logs to be turned in 1 day late. As a treat for those of you whom actually take advantage of the blog, I will allow you to turn in reading logs  tomorrow!

We will have skills review days on Monday and Tuesday and present Wed.-Frid.

Today we did a warm-up in class.  We learned the last two words for this set of context clues.  Our quiz will be on Thursday.

19.  Tom was known to be a cad, treating others without respect or kindness.

20.  Greta shared many traits with her sister, including attributes like honesty and humor.

Today we also answered our essential question.  I will give students sometime in class tomorrow to finish.

There were some important announcements made:

  • All missing assignments must  be turned in by 3/12 in order to count for the 3rd nine weeks.

  • Reading logs are due on 3/12 this week.

  • Wednesday and Thursday, students will be afforded time to finish up the myth projects.  I am expecting great things, so use this time wisely.

  • Thursday will be the context clues quiz.

  • Friday will be the Benchmark test for the 3rd nine weeks.
