Today, students completed journal #50- the final one!  I'll get these graded ASAP for one of your last grades in my class.  In the meantime, we're continuing to read/rehearse the play "And Then There Was One."

Today classes started reading the scripts for "And Then There Was One," a one act play based on the Agatha Christie novel, "And Then There Were None."  After individual readings, classes split into halves to perform reader's theater of the play.  By the end of the week, I'd like to see "performances!"

Students finished the "performances" of the Sherlock Holmes Comedy Trilogy today.  Then, they read a short story that has been dramatized, "A Retrieved Reformation" by O. Henry and completed an exit ticket.

After Journal #47 today, students reconvened into their drama skit groups to practice for a Reader's Theater performance of the Sherlock Holmes skits.  Groups stated presenting today.

Drama Quiz Today!  If you were absent, make sure to see me to make it up!

Students got into groups and read/acted on of the Sherlock Holmes Trilogy plays.  We'll share these with the class on Friday/Monday.

Today we reviewed "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Speckled Band" and then went over how to conduct a reader's theater.  Students practiced a mock reader's theater with an adaptation of "The Monkey's Paw."

Monday/Tuesday, May 9/10

As a "preview" to a trilogy of Sherlock Holmes plays we're going to read and "act," we read "Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Speckled Band" in class after all of Friday's drama stations were completed.  Then, we finished a "Plot Box" organizer Download Speckled Band Plot Box on the literary elements of the text.  If you managed to finish all of this, then there were 15 text questions that you had to answer in complete sentences on your own paper about the short story.

Friday, May 6

Today we started a new unit on drama.  We watched a short video clip introducing drama, then students rotated between stations to learn about the various aspects about drama and theater.

Response to literature essays due today.

Thursday, May 5

We went to the computer lab to type the Response to Literature essays today.  Essays are due tomorrow.

Wednesday, May 4

We talked about the 6+1 Trait of Word Choice today and read two student examples and assessed them according to the Word Choice Rubric.  Then, we looked over last night's homework, the Response to Literature Essay identification exercise.  Finally, students started drafting their reponse to literature essays using on of the choices here: Download Response to Literature Essay Response Questions
