Need to Practice or Finish Up for the Presentation of Your Myth

Students, if you want to come in early or practice for the presentation of your myth on Monday, you may come in early at 8:30 and I will check the cafeteria and bring you to my room to write; put bonus items together, and/or presentation materials together.  You will have a few minutes at the beginning of class but you know if you need additional time, use this additional morning time to tie up loose ends.

Work on your study guide given to you today by the substitute so you can review important ideas and concepts for the final.  Use the information in your notebook as a review.

Need Presentation and Bonus Items Materials for tomorrow

Students worked on their drafts and began their presentation and bonus assignments today in class.   They made a list of what was needed in groups and should bring those items to work on tomorrow to class.

Read your magazine.  Bring in for approval.  Bring in bonus and presentation items for tomorrow's group work.

We are still working hard in language arts . . .

Students you are doing a great job on the writing of your myths in class.  Let's keep up the good work.  We have just a few days left so I know you can keep working to end the year successfully.

Homework:  Read magazine. 

Bring in needed props/arts/crafts to compelte your presentation and bonus item from the front of the prewrite page.

Catch up club for those behind on assignments or with incomplete work on past few assignments on Thursday morning at 8:15 a.m.  This is the final session so make sure to come if you have incomplete work that I am allowing your to complete for this quarter.  This work includes---Responding to Literature/3 assignments; elements of a myth graphic organizer; nonfiction book summary; and quiz if you were absent and did not take this on Friday, May 13th.

Monday, May 16th

Today all classes went to the auditorium or carpeted gym (3rd period) to hear a story teller perform myths.  The stories made our class work that we've had over the past few weeks really come to life as some of our students were able to perform with the story teller and show the characters as they would be.  It was quite funny and fascinating.  The students performed beautifully.

Students who were absent on Friday may come in at 8:15 on Tuesday, May 17th for their quiz on sentence types and to get more caught up with the writing of their group myth.

Thursday, May 12th----Quiz on Sentence Types Tomorrow

Students reviewed class work on sentence types today.  They will have their quiz on tomorrow so they should study in-depth tonight the T-chart notes, compound sentence worksheet, and today's review notes.

Students completed myth stations today and turned in their graphic organizer.

We went over the directions for the final language arts project on myths. 

Each student should brainstorm tonight on a sheet of paper.  Think of ideas for the play, story, song, or puppet show----whichever your group has decided to do for your final project.  Did your group decide to write a hero myth, nature myth, or creation myth?  For homework, you should come up with characters, setting, powers of your characters, and conflict.  Bring your homework in tomorrow as all students will have to do their part each day.

Quiz on Friday on Sentence Types/Nonfiction Book Summary Collected Today

We are working on simple and compound sentences in class.  Students took out their notes from March to use tonight as review.  They should study these for the next few days in preparation to Friday's quiz.

They should also review the compound sentence sheet we have been checking and correcting in class over the past three days.  Students should have corrections and subjects/predicates underlined in their sentences. 

We are working on various myths in stations in class.  Students are completing a graphic organizer to compile the facts from each myth.  We turned in our nonfiction summary today.  Our final library book is due back in to the library on this Friday, May 13th.

Students should complete this final choice book up and select an appropriate magazine as their book 18.  This will finalize our reading for the year.  With the books we've read in subject area classes/across disciplines, this will count as all 25 books for the school year.

Monday, May 9th

A Look At This Week:  Students will be reading myths from various cultures and filling out an elements chart for the next day and a half.  Our warm up/closing will be reviewing sentence types:  simple,compound, and compound complex sentences.  Students had homework on simple sentences last week.  Students who did not have their work can bring their sentences in today.  The work is needed as review and practice for the quiz which will be given on Friday, May 13th.

 

Summaries are due tomorrow on nonfiction books.  Students should be reading to complete their choice book.  We can start turning in the nonfiction books tomorrow with the choice books being turned in on Friday, May 13th. 

Students should review their notes on sentence types.  Begin by reviewing simple and compound sentences.  The quiz on Friday is a retake so students really should know this information with the review and practice opportunities.  The way our class lesson is designed, students need their simple sentence work as review and to propel the lesson.

Friday, May 6th---Relay for Life & Lovinggood on the Lawn

The students looked absolutely wonderful in their orange today.  We really painted the school orange to support our John Willis and Relay for Life.  I am so proud of the students and their efforts and love.

We are working on finding the elements of myths read in class.  The myths we are studying in stations are from around the world so students will have the opportunity to compare and contrast various cultures and myths within the next week. 

We are also reviewing compound sentences in class for the next few days. 

Homework:  Read your choice book.  Library books are due back by next Friday.  We can start turning in our nonfiction on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week or as soon as we complete our nonfiction summary.  The summary sheets were distributed to students on today. 

Write 5 more/additional simple sentences yet 6th/7th grade sentences.  Put the sentences on the same sheet as the homework from last night for a total of 10 original simple 6th grade sentences.

Wear Orange Tomorrow to Support John Willis

Bring compound sentence sheet tomorrow as all classes will review this work tomorrow.  Bring a blue/black pen to rewrite our Arachne (Modern Day) story.  Read your choice book for 30 minutes. 

Write 5 simple but 6th grade sentences tonight for homework.

Wear your orange tomorrow to support our fellow classmate and friend, John Willis!

Progress went out today.  Quiz tomorrow on DGP week 10.  Study, study, study!
