Last Day of School

As we bring our year to a close, I have watched you all grow so much.  I am impressed by your maturity, desire to work hard, and your loving nature.   I remember your first day and how nervous you all were---wondering if you would make it, if you could do it, and if everything would be okay.  Well, you did make it, you can do this with your eyes closed now, and everything turned out - - - great.   I am proud of you and want only the best for each and every one of you.  You have a super summer.  You deserve to have fun, to relax, and to just "chill".  Remember us next year as we will remember you, always.

Now, on to summer reading.  Please down load this information from Lovinggood's website.  Look for 7th grade summer reading list.  I am proud of you!

BUG is due tomorrow

One opportunity to bring up your grade from one of the quizzes is due tomorrow.  You can find the directions for bringing up this quiz grade on yesterday's blog.  Because of the schedule, I will not see all classes tomorrow but know, your work is still due tomorrow if you want this extra credit to be ADDED TO YOUR LOWEST QUIZ GRADE.

All students have the study guide.  Please review your notebook for roots information, figurative language, narrative elements.  Narrative elements flip book is good for review, Informational Text packet (that was due before Spring break and reviewed over several class periods before the CRCT) will be good to review for reading graphs, dictionary skills, index skills.   Study and review any old work from my class.  Don't forget to study your STUDY GUIDE .

Have a good night!

Cheat Sheet Quiz Today

Today students were allowed to collaboratively review one chapter from chapters 11-15 and then put the most important facts about that chapter on the board.  All students were supposed to go to the board and list at least one fact/multiple facts from their chapter.  We then had a whole class review of their board work.  I surprised students by letting them use the notes as a "cheat sheet."  Students who were absent today will be given a similar opportunity to prepare/complete the quiz.

Homework:  Tonight students should read chapter 19 and other chapters they can read.  We have to read through chapters 22 by Monday.  That is the end of the book.  Students will also have to do the vocabulary for chapters 16-22 and selected questions from the final section of reading.  They need to use homeroom time to read and get caught up/move ahead and weekend time to complete specific questions and to finish the reading.  We will work on vocabulary together tomorrow.  All booklet work will need to be done by the beginning of class on Monday.

Study guide for final will go home tomorrow.  7th grade summer reading information is on the Lovinggood website.  Have a good night.

Reread/review each chapter.  There will be more than 10 questions on this quiz.

Test on book on Tuesday, May 19.

Final on next Thursday and Friday.

Today in class:  We worked in groups to review our homework if we completed it as stated in the homework from last night.  If not, class time was used for kids to complete homework.  Please remember that homework should be completed at home or during homeroom.  Yesterday's homework was started (60% answered) during class time.  This takes away from lessons and instructional time.

Students worked on vocabulary (6 words) in pairs and groups for 10-15 minutes.

We reviewed the booklet answers from homework and the vocabulary to help prepare for the quiz.

Thursday, May 7th/Camp Half-blood Tomorrow

Today students reviewed and shared their posters before taking the quiz.  We did a gallery walk and used time in class to have a whole group review.  Students took the quiz.

Homework:  Read chapters 12- 15 by Monday.  Continue to work on and have the questions for section 2, chapters 6-10 ready by Monday.  Don't worry about the vocabulary until next Monday.  Bring the booklet in on Monday because I will collect and grade your work at that time.

For Camp Half-blood tomorrow, students will go to each class and do specific activities (indoor/outdoor) with that particular teacher.  Wear sneakers, a hat, sunglasses if you would like for the outside activities.

Don't forget to bring your lunch tomorrow if you told your teacher ~2 weeks ago that you would if you did not want the school lunch.  Most of the team told homeroom teachers they would be bringing a lunch from home on tomorrow.  Please don't forget.

A major "Thank You" to all the wonderful parents who have been providing us with lunch this week.  Everything has been beautiful and your treats have been absolutely delicious.  You spoil us and we really appreciate your expressions of gratitude.  Again, thank you!
