Attention 8th Grade Band - Hillgrove Auditions This Week!

The Hillgrove bands will be hosting auditions for ANY student wishing to participate in ANY aspect of the Hillgrove Bands next year. Audition packets have been handed out and we are currently working on reviewing them in class to help prepare students for their audition. See the schedule below for audition days per instrumentation:

Monday, March 23 - Flute/Clarinet/Oboe

Tuesday, March 24 - Bass Clarinet/Bassoon/Saxophones

Thursday, March 26 - Trumpets/French Horns/Euphoniums

Practice Logs for 4th nine weeks handed out

Practice logs for the 4th nine weeks were handed out last week. Please remember that logs are due every Monday and are NOT accepted on Fridays. An electronic copy of the log can be downloaded from the "pages" column to the right of this blog in the event your student looses theirs.

LOGS ARE ONLY REQUIRED FOR 6th GRADE BEGINNER BAND FOR THIS NINE WEEKS!

7th & 8th Grade Practice Logs

Yes it's true - Practice logs for 7th and 8th grade ONLY have been discontinued for the remainder of the year. This puts even more emphasis on daily grades and any tests that may occur so please make sure you are prepared and have all materials EVERY DAY!

Beginner Band

Please see the March 6th posting for details regarding every beginner class.

Also: Flutes, Saxes, Oboes, Bassoons, Percussion and Low Brass should have book 2 by now. If your student does not have book 2, please make arrangements for them to get it before they fall too far behind.

NOTE: 6-2 W.W/Perc class will be worling on a duet/recording project in classs this friday (3/13).

Congrats 8-1 Symphonic Band!

Congratualtions to all of the 8-1 Band students for their outstanding performance at LGPE this past wednesday. These students have been working very hard over the past few months and received the highest (Superior) ratings form the judges on thier concert and sight reading performance.

Thanks to all the wonderfull parents for  your support of your students music education!

Way to go!

6th Grade Beginners

Below is a list of what we are working on in class based upon instruments. Please make sure that your student is practicing and turning in pratice logs every monday.

All Instruments: Rhythm Exercises (Measures 1 - 54), Basic Rhythm 1-9 (side one), 1-13 (side two)

Flutes: Chromatic scale (full range), Scales (F-Eb-D-C-G), Book #1 (lines cirlced in class), GET BOOK 2!!

Clarinets: Chromatic Scale (Low E-Alt D), Scales (F-G-C-Bb). Test next Thursday on Bb Scale, Book #1 (157 - end: circled lines only)

Saxes: Chromatic Scale (Full Range), Scales (C-G-D-F-Bb-Eb-Ab-A), Book 2 Lines off of sheet

Bassoons: Chromatic Scale (Low Bb - F), Scales (C-G-F-Bb-Eb-Ab-A), Book 2 lines off of sheet

Oboes: Chromatic Scale (Low C- high C), Scales (C-G-F-Bb-Eb-Ab-A), Book 2 lines off of sheet

Percussion: Chromatic Scale (Full range), Scale patterns (C-F-Bb-Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-G-D-A) - test on A scale on Tuesday. Romo pad stuff, Roll breakdowns, Basic Rhythms 4-5, 4-6, 4-7, 4-8, 4-9, Pollard pad exercises (#6-7-8) dealing with double strokes.
