Rick Riordan Talking about Summer Reading
Today we had exams in first and third periods, and tomorrow that leaves second, sixth, and seventh. Prepare yourselves! Yesterday's blog has several links for vocabulary review and practice. They are fun.
Remember, do not bring any bookbags or track bag tomorrow, just bring a pencil.
Have a good evening.
I hope you all had a nice day today, and enjoyed the Vocabulary Bingo I left. Sorry I could not be there to sign yearbooks.
Tomorrow you have exams in 1st, 3rd, 1st connections. Friday you will have 2nd, 6th, 2nd connections and 7th period tests. Prepare for your literature exam by reviewing the vocabulary. Then, rest well and eat a good breakfast. That ought to do it. If you would like some practice links:
Remember, summer reading is now posted on the school website. I will also link it here. There are some good choices for you rising seventh graders! Enjoy.
Today was a day of winding up. Students finished their final response to literature papers, with a couple exceptions who will finish up as homework. Today we also talked a little about the plot of The Lightning Thief. We also added a few more books to the 1,000, 000 word totals and today eight more names went up on the wall. Novel notebooks went home today and all textbooks were turned in. This doesn't mean we are finished though, not by a long shot. We have work to do! Exams are Thursday and Friday.
Homework is to read for thirty minutes. Wear something nice tomorrow for awards day. Have a great evening!
Today we spent the class period working on the computers, writing a response to the last required reading book. We will continue this on Monday and get them printed to turn in on Monday. Also, today I conferenced with each student and talled the total number of words read so far this year. As of today only 72 of my 100 students have met the 1,000,000 word goal. I am very disappointed. Many of you are almost there. Parents, if you are wondering, just ask your child. They should know how many words their current total is. My advice is that anyone who does not meet the goal should continue working toward it through the summer. This is a state standard for on-level students, not gifted ones. So many kids are almost there; hopefully, this time next week I will have better news to report.
Homework is, as always, to read for thirty minutes. Those students who have made a practice of doing so are well past the goal.
Have a nice weekend!
I came to school today, but had to leave due to illness. After a few hours at home, I am feeling some better and will probably see you all tomorrow.
Thanks for your patience as we could not continue our discussion with a substitute in the room. Tomorrow we will use the theme and plot visual organizers you completed with partners today as a basis for discussion. Also we did have a quote today, but I can't remember it. It is now time for me to grade your quote journals. Make sure yours is up to date by Friday.
Homework is to read. Remember - Friday is your last response to literature assignment. Be sure you are finished with your book. Also, bring any books you want to add to your 1,000,000 word data sheet.
Have a great evening!
Today's quote was "He that flings dirt at another dirties himself most." by Thomas Fuller. After that, we started a round-table discussion of The Lightning Thief. Now that we have read the book and enjoyed the event based on it, we need to settle down and discuss its literary value. We talked about point of view, setting and theme today. Tomorrow we will come back to theme and continue through characterization, conflict, and plot.
Homework is to read for thirty minutes. Please remember to bring your literature book to turn in tomorrow.
See you at Chik Fil A tonight! Help your Formula 1 team make it to Colorado!
Today we totaled the scores from the visitors to each canopy. Congratulations! Every single canopy ended up with a grade of A! I truly think you deserve it. It is nice that your peers thought so also. They had a great time thanks to your hard work.
We had a quote today and then reviewed the extensive photo collection taken by Mrs. Thayer. If you want a copy of any pictures of yourself, please bring a thumb drive to school. Unfortunately, the files are too large for me to email them to you.
Homework is to read for thirty minutes. Remember, you have a goal of 1,000,000 words and only two weeks to reach it.
Friday is our day to use computers to respond to your last required book. Be ready!
Have a great evening!
**** Please come to Chik FIl A on Dallas Hwy tomorrow night between 5 and 8 PM. We need your business! Our Formula 1 team has the opportunity to go to national competition this summer. If you eat at Chik Fil A, we can earn 30% of the proceeds to help fund our trip. We need your help!
Thanks, everyone, for a great day! You did it! I heard so many wonderful comments about your canopy decorations and how much you knew about your god/desses.
I really appreciate all the help from the wonderfully patient parents and all the good work you guys did. I hope everyone had fun.
We stored all the canopies in the copy room. Hopefully, no one who left theirs will need them over the weekend. We'll review the pictures next week, and find the owners of the various things left in my room: camera, hoodie, cooler, sheet, angel wings, and many more.
Homework over the weekend is to read. Remember, your reading logs are due Monday. Have a great weekend!
