Course Description

 

 

FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCE

Family & Consumer Science (FACS) curriculum is organized under the “Career Pathways” of Food, Nutrition & Wellness, Culinary Arts, Consumer & Finance, Career Development, Early Childhood Edu., Interior Design, Fashion Design, Family, Community & Leadership. Each unit requires the students to select resources, conduct research, complete hands-on activities utilizing equipment, appliances, etc.  Also, students are required to demonstrate presentation skills and labs for learning at home.  The course begins each day with lessons on manners and etiquette.

Standards -Based Grading system created by units:

Culinary, Nutrition & Wellness= 25%

Early Childhood Education= 20%

Consumer and Finances= 20%

Interior & Fashion Design= 25%

Careers/Life Skills/Leadership= 10%

 

Classwork/Homework

Policy

 

It is the student’s responsibility to check with his/her teacher or the BLOG for make-up work.  Tests & projects  assigned prior to the absence will be due on the original date and are not affected by short term absences.  Students & parents should utilize the BLOG on the LMS website to remain updated with daily assignments.  All assignments must be completed on time. Any/all questions are welcomed by the teacher.

Each student will need the following:    (Detailed info. and due dates will be given a min. of 2 weeks in advance and posted on the BLOG)

¨        For the culinary unit- Students will occasionally need to bring food items, food labels or project materials

¨        For the fashion /interior design unit- Students will need fabric (recycled is great) & pillow stuffing

Each student will be given: 

¨        3-prong folder and the FACS packet for class

Procedures will be given during 1st day of each class.

 

Extra Help  and grade replacement projects will always be available. Please contact me if required.
