"Sew" much to do - "Sew" little time!

I can not believe we only have 3 weeks left together!  We begin our unit on "Fashion and Interior Design" today!  I will introduce the sewing project- a t-shirt pillow!  Each student needs to bring a t-shirt of their choosing by this Friday.  They will also need a bag of poly-fill (pillow stuffing) by next Tuesday.  The stuffing can be found at the Walmart on the corner of Powder Springs Road and the East West Connector for about $2.50.  It can also be purchased at Joann Fabrics (off of Barrett Parkway) or Michael's craft store or Hobby Lobby.  They need no other supplies.

Monday- Introduction to Fashion and interior design-  careers, industry, clothing labels, etc.

Tuesday- The sewing machine and its parts

Wednesday- Use of the machine- practice stitching-LAUNDRY HOMEWORK IS ASSIGNED- DUE TUES- Dec.6

Thursday- Alterations, buttons and hand stitching

Friday- T-shirts DUE- We begin sewing!

Nov. 15-19 Let the Presentations Begin!

Monday- Friday- 

 The students have been working on their "Foods, Nutrition, Wellness and Culinary Cumulative Project" presentations. (They worked in class one day and in the computer lab on research on Friday.) This will be a double grade as it falls under two seperate standards.   Essentially, they will present their food topic- as studied in class- along with a sample of the food item to the class. If the food item can not be sent, it is fine.  The student must tell me 24 hours in advance so points will not be removed from the rubric.  This is a great presentation that includes research, power point creation, presentation skills, culinary techniques, nutritional info, etc...  It's all inclusive! Grades will be posted as the presentations are completed.  They are doing great!

Nov.1-5

Monday- Nov. 1-  Dining etiquette and place settings for informal and formal settings- guided note taking

Tuesday- No school for students-

Wednesday- Nov. 3-  Teacher demo for partner presentation  for the foods unit culmination project-  Hand-out with all requirements of the presentation will be given today.

Thursday- Nov. 4-  To the computer lab to research and create the power point for the presentations beginning on Monday.  The students select the date and topic from a given list for the presentation.

Friday- Nov. 5- Day #2 in the computer lab.  Most (if not all) of the power point should be completed.

All grades have been updated.  Students with missing assignments are being contacted in class on Thurs. and Friday.
