We're back......Week After Thanksgiving Break- "Sew" Busy!

"Sew Much To Do...Sew Little Time!"

Monday - Friday of this week, each class will be working on their sewing projects- "The Ego Pillow."  Everyone will be at a different place based upon their individual design. We will work in steps which include: pattern lay-out and cutting, stitching, pressing, hand sewing, embroidery, appliques, photo transfers, etc.  Any questions - please E-Mail me.

BEFORE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAYS...

Monday-  Intro. of textiles- natural vs. synthetic   HW ASSIGNED- 3 Loads Laundry- DUE 12/1

Tuesday- Textiles-  Farm to Fabrics

Wednesday- Sewing machine intro./ Threading

Thursday-  FABRIC IS DUE- GRADE  (No need to spend $- Use things from home- Hand-out sent home last Thurs. and photos/ explanation on the BLOG last week.

Friday- Cutting/Layout of fabrics

Week of Nov. 9

Few things to note:

1- All grades are updated and in Pinnacle

2- We are currently working through 2 units at the same time-  Consumerism and Finance plus Textiles (in relation to their upcoming sewing project>)

3- Info for the  new Unit - Textiles, Fashion design & Interior Design...  Within this unit, the students will learn to sew on the machines and by hand.  We have discussed our project- The "Ego Pillow."  The students will need to bring 9 squares of fabric - cut 7' X 7' and one large piece- 21' X 21'. They will eventually need 1 bag of pillow stuffing. The fabric can come from old jeans, t-shirts, blankets, etc. or purchased from a fabric store.  I also have a few great scrap bags for those who would like to dig in!  Try not to spend much money.

 FABRIC IS DUE TO THE CLASSROOM ON THURSDAY NOV 19.

If you wish to purchase fabric:  Joanne Fabrics has the largest selection - located off of Barrett Pkwy. next to the movie theatre.  Another location is Hobby Lobby on the East-West Connector.  The only local Walmart with fabric is the one at the corner of Powder Springs Rd. and the East-West Conn. Most other Walmarts have stopped carrying it.

It just can't be Week #4 !

These 9 weeks are flying by!  This week, we will finish the Super Food partner presentations and cook in our first Lab.

Monday- 11/2- Super Foods partner presentations with guided notes  NOTE: A CHANGE!  I originally planned to assign last Friday- "Meals and Manners/ Breakfast" Home Lab . That day became the "Honors Celebration."  Therfore- it will be assigned- with a take-home rubric today.  It will be due on Monday- 11/9. (GRADE)

Tuesday- 11/3- Teacher Work Day

Wednesday-11/4- Completion of Super Food presentations and TEST ON 14 SUPER FOODS (GRADE)

Thursday- Walk-through and Team work plans for oatmeal cookie lab (teaches measurement, baking, following a recipe, etc. in a "restaurant - simulated team work plan)

Friday- 11/6- Cooking Lab (GRADE)

Manners/Etiquette:  We will work on theses again this week.
1- Opening doors
2- Power of "Thank you"- written and verbal
